25 in 25

In 2025 I decided to produce 25 special paintings using my bold colours and expressionist style of work. The aim was to celebrate our beautiful landscape and precious planet through art. I painted each work with my signature oil pigment sticks. Each painting is on a 60cm x 60cm deep canvas, and was announced on special email messages. The response to the paintings was excellent, and most are still available to purchase. If you aren't on my email list it's really easy to sign up on the Newsletter page of this website.

Landscapes

Landscapes

A love of our landscape is what drives my life as an artist. I spend significant time every day outside enjoying the natural beauty which surrounds me. I might be walking our wonderful rescue dog (she collected her from Crete in February 2024), or drawing and painting, or cycling, or gardening. I frequently sketch what I see, and often take photos for reference...my smartphone is a constant companion. From all this observation comes my studio work, which you see displayed here.

Seascapes

Seascapes

I love being out experiencing the amazing natural beauty that surrounds us in the countryside. There's something about being by the sea that seems to magnify this...maybe it's the grand vistas...or the power of the waves and wind...or the amazing constantly changing colours and light. Anyway, you'll often find me on a beach or in the studio trying to create a believable impression of some stunning part of our awe-inspiring coastline.

Commissioned Paintings

Commissioned Paintings

A specially commissioned landscape painting has tremendous resonance with the owners, because inevitably it's of a place that has particular significance to them. They also require a slightly different approach from my usual paintings, so as to capture what is especially important to the person organising the commission.

We usually start with a discussion, to see if the suggested idea is workable. I much prefer to paint a subject which I can visit in order to photograph and sketch it myself. However, there have been times when either I've been able to sit down and chat through a whole series of photos with my clients, and thus get a real 'feel' for a location...or worked from a variety of sources and personal knowledge.

I always ask people to consider that they will be getting a painting featuring my signature expressive mark making and powerful colours, before committing to a commissioned work. We invariably discuss the finished size and prospective costs, and then I almost always produce a scaled down watercolour and acrylic study of the finished view. This allows us to discuss any adjustments needed before I embark on the complete work.

To date, every finished artwork has been extremely warmly received, and sometimes they move the new owners to tears because they have so much meaning and power to them...
